As an artist member of the Lot 23 Artist-in-Residency program established by the West Palm Beach CRA in partnership with The Center For Creative Education, I have provided “FREE” Family Art & Fun Art classes, for both parents and children, every Saturday morning in Northwood Village of West Palm Beach, FL.. This Lot 23 program also gave me the opportunity to participate in various community venues local and beyond. In addition, as Teaching Artist for The Center for Creative Education, I taught art to children at various public and private elementary schools and other locations throughout Palm Beach County for over 15 years! Both these positions have been great opportunities that allowed me to further develop my art in a venue that keeps me fresh.
My initial training includes a degree in graphic design, and from that discipline evolved my passion for painting on canvas. I am clearly inspired by the 80’s pop culture and artists such as Gauguin, Picasso, and Chagall. The influence of folklore, ancient symbolism, and contemporary artists has also encouraged me to refer to my art as “Primitive Pop”. For nearly forty years I have expressed myself in a variety of mediums and applications but mostly painting and printmaking. While my primary medium is acrylics, I have also worked with oils and enamels. Working with youth allows me to consistently expand my creativity through watercolor, clay, and paper mache. Throughout my career I have also painted murals, furniture, banners, logos, sculpture, and other 3-dimensional forms.
My paintings develop from figments of my imagination and most importantly, directly from my heart. Painting often leads me to a sunny or cool and mostly calm place where I like to be. My whimsical and eclectic subject matter allows me to aspire for a better tomorrow for all, where we will find a world full of color, peace, and harmony. My painting process allows me to communicate universal integrity and is inspired by form, color, and movement in ways that fill negative voids. There is a repeating character that has appeared in most of my pieces that is my source of inner awareness. Thus, my motto is “For thoughts of dreams and how they can be, let visions of color bring harmony.”
